The Petersen Family
Owner: Jacob Petersen
In 2014, Jake Petersen began farming the land that was founded by his grandfather in the 1940’s. The farmland is a total of 750 acres with 320 acres being corn and beans, an additional 50 acres for hay, 120 head of cattle and 90 head of Berkshire sows for his farrow-to-finish pig operation. Jake is a farmer for a multitude of reasons, but really enjoys being independent and self-employed. Something notable about Jake’s farm is that he runs his farm and he is awesome, therefore his farm is awesome! He loves the outdoors and knew he would never be able to work indoors at sit down job. Jake’s farming practices include rotational grazing and minimal to no-till to be in sync with nature. When Jake gains a little free time he enjoys hunting with friends. Jake’s favorite meaty meal is either smoked ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, fresh greens and homemade bread or Berkwood delicious Tenderloins.
