Sustainable Pig Farming Practices
Our farmers understand that in order to provide you with the best-quality pork for years to come, it is absolutely imperative that we care for our livestock and the environment. Sustainable farming, however, isn’t a new concept for our pig farmers; we’ve been practicing eco-friendly farming practices for decades.
In 2012, the National Pork Board conducted a study comparing the farming practices between the years 1959 and 2009. While pork production nearly doubled in the last 50 years, farmers have reduced their environmental impact by almost half across the board. With a 35% decrease in the overall carbon footprint, a 41% reduction in water usage, and 78% decrease in land affected, our farmers will continue to demonstrate a commitment to sustainable farming as research and technology continues to advance.
Farms—Where We Live and Work
Apart from being good stewards to the environment for the sake of conserving the earth’s resources, our farmers have a personal interest in practicing sustainability. We share the land, water, air, and resources with our livestock; we work, breathe, and live right alongside our pigs. It’s important for us to feed our pigs efficiently, fertilize the land responsibly, protect the air quality by planting trees and shrubs, and ensure the water is safe for our families and livestock to drink. With our family-owned farms, we want to guarantee a safe, healthy place to live and work for generations to come.
